Jesus said, "I have come that they might have life", a more abundant life! John 10:10. John's "wish above all things" was that his readers "may prosper and be in health" 3John2. The LORD (Jehovah) said, Although "you have no healing medicines", "I will restore your health and I will heal you" Jeremiah 30:13,17. God told Hezekiah, "I will heal you" 2Kings 20:5. And He did. Jesus sent word to Mary and Martha that the sickness afflicting their brother Lazarus was "not unto death" John 11:4. And then Lazarus died. Was Jesus wrong? Did he lie? No doubt his two day delay in coming to Bethany contributed to the sad outcome. Martha and Mary both informed Jesus that his presence would have made all the difference: "If you had been here, my brother would not have died." John 11:21,32. How true! He is the Son of God. In Him was life. John 1:4. His touch brought life to the dead (Luke 7:14, Mark 5:41). He touched lepers and they were cleansed (Matthew 8:3). He touched feverish hands and they rose up fever free (Matthew 8:15).
He touched blind eyes and they could see (Matthew 9:29,30). He touched deaf ears and dumb tongues and they were opened (Mark 7:33-35). He touched a severed ear and it was restored as new (Luke 22:50,51). What about today? "is there any sick among you? Let the elders pray over them, anointing them...And the prayer of faith shall save the sick" James 5:14,15.
The ultimate healing is yet to come. The voice of Jesus will not simply call one like Lazarus, but all "they that hear shall live" John 5:25. And they that hear and know the voice of the Good Shepherd will gather together "from one new moon to another, and from one Sabbath to another" Isaiah 66:23 to eat from the tree of life whose "leaves are for the healing of the nations" Revelation 22:2.
